The new soccer themed McDonalds commercial titled Victory reminds us that there are things more important than winning a soccer championship.
Turkey and Russia had fantastic runs in the European Cup but fell short of winning the trophy. There is good news for the courageous Turkey squad though. You can get Happy Meals in Turkey! The exciting Russian side is out of luck though. Even Ronald can't overcome the Siberian tundra. Oh well, they have Vodka.
For myself, I'm still waiting for the triumphant return of a the $1 Fillet-O-Fish sandwich.

I have to say this!
You seem to know a lot about "futbol" in paper, and "statistics" also in paper, however in (my opinion) you are in many ways clueless about the "futbol" world,
not you understand cultures, and to top this I am the champion of your group!!!!
Emerge your self in the culture, and then you can truly give help to others!
No offense intended
just a friend
He can't immerse himself in what you think soccer culture is, because futbol culture to you comes from Espana and your whole life.
He's got American futbol culture, which is a mix of lots of things - just like all American culture.
The United States won't be a world-competitor in futbol for some time, because there is so much money in baseball, football, and basketball for the top athletes. When Spaniard see a tall, fast, athletic kid like Torres, they think, "Forward". In America, when people see a tall, fast, athletic kid, they think of football, baseball, or basketball. Unless that kid is a girl, and then they think about soccer, too...
I cannot claim to be in any position to "help" anyone. I'm not a soccer professional now and I never have been.
I will claim two things. 1)I love the game and 2)I don't mind sharing my oppinion.
My goal for most of my blog entries is to share interesting soccer things, encourage people to think about soccer and get excited about the sport. So I appreciate all comments despite if they agree or disagree with me.
Then…..Merten…when a person expresses opinions on euro or south Americans player…one have to have some knowledge of this cultures, to come to a conclusive opinion….right?
Or….YOU (mean all) that live here, USA see Europes (players) and other countries, as it is all about money also? (Witch… it is some cases).
PS. Hope you know spanglish!!! lol

I would have to know something about Spanish football culture to offer an opinion about how Xabi learned to play the way he does, but I don't need to know much about Portuguese football to know that the goalkeeper sucks, and is always getting them (and himself) into trouble with crosses.
I would have to know something about Mexican football culture to say something intelligent about national-team coaching selections, or why someone thinks that C. Blanco should keep getting chosen when he is old, fat, slow, and unimaginative, but I don't need to know anything about Mexican culture to know that C. Blanco is old, fat, slow, and unimaginative.
The game isn't all about money, but we've made all the games (basketball, football, baseball, soccer, etc.) about money. C. Ronaldo will make more in a week than most people in the U.S. make in 10 years, but that unbelievable amount of money is 'justified' as he sells 20 million jerseys for Real Madrid at E70 each, and scores some goals along the way...
We may not like the 'injustice', but for all the people bitching about it, there are 10 people buying the jersey. And, finally, who's right is it to artificially reduce the amount of money a business can make? C. Ronaldo is a business, and he can sell his services where he wants.
I don't like the fact that we'll (people in Europe and the U.S.) spend so much money on it, but it doesn't really affect my life. I am glad, however, to watch him on T.V. and try to copy a move or two...
