Three Oregon based soccer tryouts for men and women with ambitions of playing soccer beyond high school and college are available in March. The Portland Rain will host an open tryout for female players sixteen and older. The Cascade Surge and the Portland Timbers brand new U-23 team are offering trials to young male players.

I would expect the competition to be tough at all of these tryouts. If you are going to do this you should already know you are a pretty good player. With that said I can think of more than a few young men and women from the Mid-Valley that are qualified to give this a try. To be successful your ambition and passion will have to overcome your fears.
Do not expect these positions to pay. You may have some playing expenses compensated but do not expect to make any money at this level. You would do best to have a paying job in addition to playing. That can make this a good opportunity for young players who are not attending college. This is a window for players without college playing experience.
You will train, travel a lot, play and not make any money. This is what you do if you are committed to giving yourself a shot.

You mentioned some players who you think could do well and should try in the mid valley. Care of sharing those thoughts?
@Fulham for life to be honest I was avoiding responding to this comment. First, thank you for caring what I think. I'm flattered.
What I am scared of is offending someone by not mentioning them. So I am going to do my best by answering without using names.
Willamette FC has a number of very good young women in the Valley. Even the juniors in high school should go try out if only for the exposure.
There are a few young men in particular that for whatever will not or cannot play soccer in college but are very good. They should use this is as an alternative path IF they want to play "next level".
Then there are the OSU men's team seniors that should try out if they still have aspirations of playing. I have played against them recently and they are all qualified for the PDL level.
Sorry if that seems cowardly. If you see me face to face I promise you a direct answer.
