If you still haven't picked up the new DVD release of Goal II: Living the Dream consider yourself lucky.

Goal II had a limited release in 2007 and never reached the theaters around Corvallis. I was aware of the movie, so I had been anticipating the DVD release for a while. I was forgiving of the first film, Goal! The Dream Begins mainly because I am starved for soccer related movies. This excuse for a film was so bad even the soccer theme couldn't make me enjoy it.

I think my biggest problem with the movie was that the lack of any likable characters. Its a sports movie so I don't need a complex plot to be happy (I loved Rocky). But I do need at least one character to cheer for. Goal II failed to deliver a hero to connect with.

Secondly the soccer was terrible. How hard is it to choreograph some compelling soccer action. I wonder if the Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra has even seen a soccer match in his life.

If I had to mention something good about Goal II it would be British babe Anna Friel. Her W.A.G. character is pitiful but once I stopped listening to the dialogue about half way through she was more fun to look at.

The only scene I enjoyed was a little crack about diving. Jump to minute 2:30 in this clip from Goal II to see it.

Now you have seen the best part of the movie.

Have you seen the movie? If yes, I'm sorry I didn't warn you sooner. What did you think of it? Am I being too hard?

I would rather eat that DVD than watch it again. Not even the footage of my beloved Zizou with hair saved that movie for me.
