I asked Corvallis soccer players the question: "Why do you love soccer?" The answers ranged from thoughtful to silly to a bit weird. Have a look at what Corvallis had to say in this four minute video.

Can't see the video here? Watch the "Why do you love soccer?" video on YouTube.

After putting all those people on the spot it is only fair that I share why I love soccer.

  • I love that soccer requires me to depend on others and to be dependable in return.

  • I love that soccer gives me a chance to make my teammates happy. (not that it happens all the time)

  • I love the confidence that comes from testing my will and ability against others in a soccer match.

  • I love that through soccer I can share something in common with so many people around the world and also stand out as unique.
Your turn to share. Why do you love soccer?

I appreciate the try Jeff. Blogger is known for sub-par commenting and it should be easier to use.

My best advice it to never us anything web-based as a document editor. Its too risky. I hope you can summon up the desire to share the love I know you have for soccer with everyone else. C'mon Jeff, if you can open just one persons eyes...what price that Jeff?

Oh yea just to rub it in...Fernando comments and he is only working with something like six fingers total.

Now get to typing. (in Notepad)

I don't play soccer because its fun. Ask any soccer player, most of them hate it, but they couldn't imagine their life without it. Its part of them, the hate/love relationship. It's what they live for. They live for the practices full of six 5/8s in under 2:20, parties that no one remembers, swear word filled cheers, long bus rides after loosing to Bend, invitationals, countless pairs of different types of shoes, water, Gatorade, & coaches you hate, but appreciate (I could name a hundred of those).

I live for the way it feels when you beat the team next to you by 1 goal. in overtime & you know those 2 extra sprints you ran in practice were worth it. I live for the way you become a family with your team, I live for the countless songs you sing in your head when your running ALL those suicides. I live for the competition, I live for the friends, the practices, the memories, the pain, its who I am.

That's why I love soccer. I have played everyday since I was 4. 15 yrs and don't ever plan on stopping.

growing up in Europe, sure I loved soccer, but then my family moved back to the US when I was 14.......that was almost the end! There was no soccer, and there was nobody that could relate to me. that was until I met and started playing with the Mexicans in southern Oregon. What I found when I moved back to the states, was that when I met a foreigner, all I had to do was mention soccer, and I had an immediate friend. A bond that I could not have with peers in school. Soccer IS the universal sport, that ties us all together. Even to this day, when I meet someone from another country, here in the US, all I have to mention is soccer and it always brings out a smile and the beginning to another friendship.

Sure, I love what the game teaches us, and the competitive nature that it brings out, but most of all, I appreciate the friends made around the world as a result of a silly little ball.
